Dangal movie is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language biographical sports drama film directed by Nitesh Tiwari, written by Nitesh Tiwari, Shreyas Jain, Piyush Gupta and Nikhil Mehrotra, and produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao under Aamir Khan Entertainment Productions with Siddharth Roy Kapur producing the original Hindi version movie under the Disney banner and the dubbed local and overseas versions under the UTV Motion Pictures production banner. Based on a true story idea by Disney creative member Divya V. Rao, who came up with the story idea of a film on the Phogat family, the movie stars Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat, a pehlwani amateur wrestler who trains wrestling to his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become India's first world female wrestlers. Development and making on the film began in early 2013 when Tiwari began writing the script. In 2014, Amir Khan had interviewed the Phogat sisters on his talk show Satyamev Jayate, before Nitesh Tiwari approached him with the script months later, after which Amir Khan became the lead actor and producer. Set primarily in the Indian state of Haryana, principal photography commenced in September 2015 in the Punjab.Satyajit Pande served as the cinematographer and Ballu Saluja as the editor. Pritam scored the movies background music and soundtrack, dangal lyrics for which were written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Kripa Shankar Patel Bishnoi, a coach with the Indian women's wrestling team, trained Khan and the cast for the wrestling sequences.
After a North American premiere on 21 December 2016, Dangal movie was released worldwide on 23 December and received positive and good reviews from critics, with praise centered on the film's "honest" depiction of a real-life story and Amir Khan's performance. It was also screened at the Beijing International Film Festival in April 2017 and second BRICS festival in June 2017. At the 62nd Filmfare Awards, Dangal movie won four awards: Best movie, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Action .At the 64th National Film Awards, Zaira Wasim won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Geeta's younger self. Dangal movie was a record-breaking commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film ever and the highest grossing Indian movie of the 2010s, the sixth highest grossing non-English, non-mandarin movie ever and the highest-grossing sports film worldwide. Produced on a budget of ₹70 crore, the film grossed ₹2,024 crore worldwide, including $216.2 million in China,becoming one of the country's top 20 highest-grossing movies and the highest-grossing non-English foreign movie in China.
